The challenge
Albany Health Campus is a busy regional hospital providing care to the Great Southern community of Western Australia. They faced a challenge when their large reception and waiting area often became noisy as families and children gathered, creating a stressful and uncomfortable environment for staff and visitors.
On top of these acoustic issues, the hospital had installed wall stickers to brighten the space. But over time these stickers had started to peel and tear, leaving the walls looking tired and untidy.
Albany Health sought a solution that would address noise levels and improve the space’s aesthetics, all while meeting strict infection control standards.
The Avenue solution
After careful review, Avenue Interior Systems recommended our Custom Calando Panels, a solution designed to control noise while creating a visual statement piece.
The Avenue team designed 11 custom-printed acoustic panels to be installed across three feature murals within the hospital:
- Four panels (1090mm W x 2500mm H) to form mural one
- Four panels (1090mm W x 2500mm H) to form mural two
- Three panels (2 at 1115mm W x 2500mm H, one at 1120mm W x 2500mm H) to form mural three
Each panel was manufactured at 25 mm thickness (rated NRC 0.85 for sound absorption), and Group 1 fire rated to meet Australian standards.
By printing the artwork directly onto the acoustic panels, the hospital was able to replace the damaged wall stickers with durable murals that also absorbed sound, effectively solving two problems at once.
Results achieved by Avenue
The Custom Calando Panel installation has transformed the reception and waiting area. Staff have noticed a clear reduction in background noise, creating a calmer, more welcoming space for families. Visitors now enjoy a brighter and tidier environment thanks to the integrated murals.
The hospital team are very pleased with the outcome. The custom Calando Panels not only improved acoustic comfort but also elevated the space’s look and feel, exceeding expectations by combining functionality with thoughtful design.
