Calando Panels bring peace and quiet to Nurmurkah Kindergarten
Situated in the heart of Numurkah, Victoria, Numurkah Kindergarten takes pride in fostering an inclusive and nurturing educational environment for children. However, they faced a significant challenge with excessive noise in their childcare room, foyer and staff room, which was affecting the overall comfort and functionality of the space for both the children and the staff.
The Challenge
Excessive noise can lead to frustration, stress, and health issues for teachers, as well as poor behaviour and interrupted learning for children.
The large size of the childcare room and the hard surfaces amplified and reverberated sound, creating a noisy and uncomfortable environment. The foyer area, also with hard surfaces, was very echo-y, further contributing to the noise problem and making the space very uncomfortable for any parents, children or staff conversing or mingling in the area. In the office, staff struggled with noise levels while undertaking administrative tasks or making phone calls.
The Avenue Solution
To address these issues, Avenue Interior Systems installed 25mm Calando Panels and 12mm Calando Acoustic Fabric on the ceiling and walls of the childcare room, as well as 12mm Calando Acoustic fabric on the walls in the foyer and office. This treatment aimed to reduce reverberation and volume within each space, creating a more comfortable environment. The acoustic fabric on the walls doubles as noticeboards, allowing educators to display posters, signage and artwork with ease.
Results Achieved by Avenue
The installation of Calando Panels and Acoustic Fabric made an immediate and noticeable difference.
The noise level in the childcare room was significantly reduced, making it a more workable environment. The echo in the foyer was eliminated, creating a more pleasant space for parents and children. The office became warmer and quieter, enhancing the working conditions for staff.

It has stopped all the echo in the foyer – there was a group of parents in there this morning and there was no echo, the sound was dulled. It wasn’t dead, but it was dampened.
