Noise Awareness Checklist for the Hospitality Industry

Identify if noise is affecting your staff, guests, and overall experience.

What You’ll Learn

Noise in hospitality spaces can impact both employees and customers. Use this checklist to quickly assess your venue and take steps toward a calmer, more comfortable environment.

  1. Do you need to raise your voice to communicate with someone about one metre away?

  2. Do workers notice a reduction in hearing over the course of the day?

  3. Do workers complain that it’s too noisy or that they can’t hear instructions?

  4. Do workers experience ringing in the ears or sounds seeming different in each ear?

  5. Do any long-term staff appear to be hard of hearing?

  6. Do customers complain about too much noise, e.g., they can’t sleep?

  7. Have customers left your venue because of excessive noise?

Tip: If you answered “yes” to any of these, it’s time to carry out a noise assessment to improve the working environment for staff and customers.
