Aged Care Residents More Comfortable Thanks to Acoustic Treatment

Calando Panels prove highly effective in reducing noise

UPA Riverina Murray Region is a not-for-profit provider of aged care services, operating eight retirement villages and six aged care hostels including Gumleigh Gardens. They also provide home care packages across southern NSW and the border.

The Challenge

Gumleigh Gardens had a resident who sadly was suffering from dementia. Due to their condition, the patient was very noisy, causing disruption and unsettling other residents. To reduce the impact of this noise, Gumleigh Gardens were looking for a solution that would reduce the sound escaping from the patient’s room, and that could be retro-fitted. Gumleigh Gardens came to Avenue Interior Systems in search of an answer.

The Avenue Solution

Even though the Avenue team had not worked on a project such as this before, we drew on our knowledge and worked in conjunction with our acoustic engineer to create the ideal solution.

The team took care to provide products that would work effectively with the double glazed windows and acoustic doors seals that were installed by another provider.

Avenue provided Gumleigh Gardens with large white Calando Panels which the client was easily able to cut to fit the available wall space. The white Calando panels were also used to cover some of the walls and the door. What’s more, the white colour was unobtrusive and blended nicely into the surrounds so as not to further agitate the dementia patient.

Results Achieved by Avenue

The results of Avenue’s acoustic treatment were above and beyond all expectations. The acoustic product application has created a quieter, more peaceful environment for the other residents, as well as a more comfortable work environment for staff.
