Delivering a more comfortable, broadcast-ready hub
The challenge
The Hsiang Kuang Grand Buddhist Association in Goombungee, Queensland, is a Pure Land Buddhist centre established to provide a spiritual sanctuary and community hub. The Association’s hall is the thriving centre of their activities, hosting dining, teaching, and live broadcasting. Yet this haven faced a pressing challenge.
The hall’s large size and hard surfaces made it an acoustically difficult space. Excessive volume, echoes, and reverberation created discomfort for participants, and reduced the quality of recordings and live streams. The Association needed a solution that would create a more peaceful environment, while also supporting professional broadcasting and recording.
The Avenue solutions
Our valued industry partner Visual Focus brought this project to Avenue’s attention. They recognised the importance of improving the hall’s acoustics for both in-person gatherings and broadcasts.
Avenue’s project coordinator conducted a site visit to assess the hall and confirm the best approach. Site visits allow Avenue to take precise measurements, assess acoustic challenges first-hand, and provide tailored recommendations. This ensures each solution is designed specifically for the client’s space, reducing risk and guaranteeing the best results.
As a result of our site visit, Avenue Interior Systems recommended a ceiling treatment using Calando Acoustic Panels to control reverberation and restore clarity in the hall.
108 Calando Acoustic Panels were installed on the ceiling, each measuring 2390mm x 1190mm and 50mm thick. The panels were cut on-site to fit the space.
This solution brought multiple benefits:
- A 10mm shadow line was left between panels to create a modern, seamless finish.
- A clean, plain white finish was chosen to complement the existing design.
- The panels achieved an NRC of 1.0, absorbing 100% of reflected sound.
- Group 1 Fire Rating was achieved, ensuring safety in a community venue.
- Long-term durability was supported by low-maintenance, cleanable surfaces.
Results achieved by Avenue
The Hsiang Kuang Grand Buddhist Association is extremely happy with Avenue’s solution. The Calando Acoustic Panels installation has transformed the hall:
- The space is now comfortable for gatherings, with reduced volume and improved clarity.
- Echo and reverberation have been eliminated, ensuring every word and sound is clear.
- The hall is now broadcast-ready, supporting high-quality recordings and live streaming.
- The clean, white panels blend seamlessly with the hall’s architecture, preserving its serene aesthetic.
These results have exceeded their expectations, delivering both the acoustic comfort and broadcast capability the Association were seeking.
