The effect of Calando One acoustic panels on a high-traffic corporate space
The challenge
As part of a new fitout for their Brisbane Airport facility, global logistics company Martin Brower sought an acoustic solution for their boardroom walls. They would need effective sound absorption to ensure clear communication during meetings, along with a finish that would integrate seamlessly with the project’s architectural details.
Tomkins Commercial & Industrial Builders Pty Ltd required a solution that would deliver both acoustic performance and design consistency. It would also need to meet fire and durability standards and be installed efficiently within their construction timeline.
The Avenue solutions
Avenue Interior Systems proposed 10 Calando One Groove acoustic panels (24 mm thickness, 2700 mm × 1200 mm) in Stone colour. These lightweight yet semi-rigid compressed polyester panels offer strong acoustic control with an NRC of up to 0.85, depending on configuration.
Key features included:
- Custom groove design tailored to suit the boardroom’s aesthetic and align with other interior finishes
- Design flexibility in colour, size and layout which allowed the panels to be cut and arranged to meet both functional and visual requirements
- Seamless installation using adhesives, providing a clean finish without visible fixings
Approximately 28 m² of wall space was covered, creating an acoustic treatment that was both discreet and effective.
Results achieved by Avenue
Upon installation, the Calando One Groove acoustic panels noticeably reduced echo and cut background noise. Martin Brower’s meetings are now clearer, presentations are more audible, and day-to-day discussions benefit from significantly improved speech clarity.
The Stone finish integrated beautifully with the boardroom’s interior, delivering subtle elegance that doesn’t draw attention away from the overall design. Both the build team and client were pleased that the acoustic solution met all expectations for aesthetics and performance.
